Libraries collect, organize, preserve and provide information that expands our knowledge of the world around us. The Library of Virginia (LVA) in Richmond is the jewel of libraries in the Commonwealth. The Library of Virginia houses collections of books, periodicals, government publications, newspapers, architectural drawings and plans, manuscripts, archival records, maps, rare books, prints, photographs, and fine art that are unsurpassed in depth and scope. These collections document the history, culture and people of the Commonwealth. The library also has a 24/7 online access to resources through its Find it Virginia program.
Across Virginia, public libraries provide a valuable resource to everyone regardless of income level, offering opportunities for learning, recreation and community events, generally without cost.
